Coping with Anxiety

Are you experiencing worry thoughts and anxiety on a regular basis? Do you find yourself avoiding events that you would typically enjoy? Are anxiety and all of the uncomfortable symptoms that come along with it interfering with your daily life? Is your overthinking about every detail and potential negative outcome causing fatigue and exhaustion? Though anxiety is a healthy, natural human response to a threat or stress, it can also cause significant distress and have a very negative effect on people’s lives. It is natural to feel anxious when starting a new job, going on a first date, giving a presentation, taking a test or moving to a new place and the presence of some level of anxiety in these circumstances can actually help us focus and motivate us to do better and work harder. Experiencing intense worry thoughts and physiological symptoms such as increased heart rate, rapid breathing, sweating, nervousness, trembling, chest discomfort, stomach pains, weakness, fatigue or panic attacks on an ongoing basis is when anxiety may become debilitating and can disturb many aspects of our lives in a significant way. There are many tools, strategies and stress management techniques that can help us learn to cope with anxiety and make it much more manageable in our daily lives. Learning specific tools to recognize triggers and increase insight regarding self-defeating beliefs and thought patterns that lead to anxiety can be incredibly helpful.
